About Ela Restaurant

Located in a historically significant building, this restaurant boasts a rich past dating back to the middle ages when it was constructed by Jews brought to Crete by the Venetians. Over the years, the building has served various purposes, including a soap-making facility, a school, and a wine store. From 1976 to 1988, it functioned as a coffee shop, bar, and restaurant before being devastated by fire.

In 1991, following an extensive renovation and thorough safety inspections, Ela restaurant opened its doors and has since established itself as a popular tavern offering traditional Cretan cuisine in a charming setting. The extensive salad menu features dishes such as haniotiki salad, which combines mizithra cheese, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers with potatoes and bread rusks. The appetizers are abundant and delectable, accompanied by a diverse range of seafood dishes and an impressive selection of Greek wines from various regions.

The bar is well-equipped with local beverages, including raki and ouzo. The dessert menu showcases delightful local flavors that are certainly worth sampling. Despite offering top-quality food, the restaurant maintains reasonable prices. Conveniently situated just two streets behind the harbor front, this tavern is a must-visit destination.
