About Agia Triada Sinai monastery
The Agia Triada (Holy Trinity) Sinai dependency is situated between the Perivolia and Mournies suburbs of Chania and is one of the four independent monasteries of the Sinai Saint Catherine Monastery in Crete. Established during the Second Byzantine Period (prior to 1204), the Monastery of the Holy Trinity had a rural nature, as demonstrated by the presence of an olive mill, warehouse for products, and other facilities.
Several such dependencies belonging to various monasteries from the same era can be found in the area. These were likely established to take advantage of the fertile plain for maintaining their property. Initially independent, they became affiliated with monasteries before the Turkish conquest of Crete in order to avoid being seized by the Turks, who protected church properties.
